A series inspired by traditional Welsh men's work smocks, and the land they lived and worked on. The 17th-19th C traditional Welsh men's work smock frocks were outdoor, sturdy garments worn by shepherd's, fishermen, farmers and blacksmiths. These heavily embroidered, oiled, cotton and linen smocks were the primary work garment in rural Wales. Men desiring to go courting, or successful enough would have a Sunday (unoiled) smock.
These compositions are mathematically inspired by the agricultural dimensions of farm acreage, stiles, plow lines, and livestock and crop line divisions. The embroidery recreates elements of the original Welsh workmen's smock-frocks.
